Experience
Public Information Officer
Louisiana Department of Health
Nov. 2021 - Present
I currently work for the Louisiana Department of Health’s (LDH) Bureau of Media and Communications (BMAC) as a public information officer, where communication is at the heart of my job. BMAC communicates vital health information to the public, maintains LDH's brand through all internal and external communication, and works closely with the media to promote information that addresses the health and safety of Louisiana residents.

Because LDH is the largest state department in Louisiana (with about 7,000 employees) and BMAC is the smallest team (with 3-6 members), I get the opportunity to wear many hats. Not only does this help me gain more experience with a wide range of job duties, but it also helps me grow as a professional and an individual.

Here are some of my job duties:
-
Leads all internal communication for 7,000 employees (internal newsletters, bulletin boards, messages from the secretary)
-
Co-leads crisis communications (approves crisis communication plans, assists in all communications during an emergency)
-
Create and implement weekly internal newsletter for 7,000 employees to read; this currently has a 76% open rate
-
Design brochures, fliers, posters, fact sheets, reports, presentations, postcards, and social media graphics while maintaining brand standards
-
Write and edit press releases, key messages, talking points, blogs, internal newsletter stories, and social media captions
-
Create a monthly report of all marketing campaigns and media mentions for the Louisiana Governor’s office
-
Edit 50-60 Louisiana legislative reports per year
-
Respond to media requests and arrange interviews with LDH subject matter experts before a reporter’s deadline
-
Manages communications plans for large-scale campaigns and public events for 7 LDH program offices

A full list of job duties and a yearly evaluation can be provided upon request.
